I am amused by the infantilizing, sanctimonious claptrap pouring out in response to the Rude Right Wing. Political discourse has never been what you could call civil, in any country, and especially not in the USA. The provocative, polemical style has always been right out front. Sometimes the participants are careful to avoid actionable libel and scatology. Sometimes they are not. See, for example, the cretinous screed at Fuck The South. CNN and MSNBC attempt to fly on a higher plane, with laughable results. They have no serious objection to the crimes of the elite, and never will. But when a boor sounds off, they act like butlers who have been pantsed by the milkman.
Ham-handed contumely and the contumacious response to it are part of the freak show. They are a feature, not a bug, of all authoritarian systems. The attempt to enforce politesse is not an improvement.

The Progressives (formerly the Liberal Left), here in the US, have decided they no longer need to debate the issues. They are “right”, so to speak, so they just dismiss any argument and resort to name calling. It’s easy to be smug when you “know” you are right. I know, I use to be a Progressive.
Debate on the issues is for when movement politicos are out of power
