Here's how the speaker looks before we begin. Yeah, it's pretty beat up. See that black electrical tape? This speaker was used for a long while after it was technically unuseable. Duct tape isn't the only thing that works miracles. This speaker actually has two speakers in it, as you can see. We ignored the little one up top and left it connected. It's the big one we're going to mutilate.
Pop the dust cap that covers the voice coil off. Underneath you'll see where the wires connect to the voice coil. Don't cut those wires.
Use a utility knife to cut the diaphram away from the voice coil. You don't have to be neat or accurate about this. Cut just inside of where the dust cap was glued and try not to cut the spider or wires underneath it. (If you don't know what the spider is, then you didn't follow the link above. It's the orangy thing in the pictures.)
