Take a bit of duct tape and wrap it around the pushrod thick enough that the hole in the mirror can't fit over it. The tape should be placed so that the mirror is level when resting on it. The middle picture shows how we got it wrong -- the tape is too high on the rod. The right hand picture shows the proper position, after we moved the tape down a bit.
Once you get the tape right, epoxy the pivot rod into place.
Wrap more duct tape around the part of the pushrod that is sticking through the hole, so that the pushrod is held firm.
